Screenocean has been appointed clips sales agent for the BP Video Library, a massive treasure trove of material spanning more than a century and filmed in over a 100 countries.

Although BP might not normally be associated with film making, the collection is highly respected by researchers, historians and film makers. BP is one of the most successful producers of industrial films, winning more than 100 film awards including an Oscar for the short film “Giuseppina”, four Oscar nominations and seven BAFTAs.

Early oil explorations are faithfully recorded along with local colour and landscapes from Indonesia, Colombia and Algeria. Formative motor sport is also represented, while for the social or media historian there is a rich source of advertising and promotional material.

Tom Blake, CEO of Screenocean said:

“We are confident Screenocean can help unlock the commercial value of this wonderful archive. With over 15,500 items in this one library, realising its potential depends on providing high quality, searchable access to the global market. This is exactly where Screeenocean fits in.”

The Shed Media Group has announced an exclusive clip sales representation agreement with Screenocean the newly established business to business clip management and distribution service.

Screenocean is backed by Cambridge Imaging Systems – an innovator in the Digital Asset Management field – and provides content producers with access to thousands of hours of premium media clips.

Charlotte Street, Head of Commercial Affairs at Shed Media explained “after a great deal of in-depth research we decided that Screenocean was the best platform for the exploitation of our rich archive of clip content. The technology that drives the search facility has been developed so that researchers can search for clips within a full programme, linked to descriptive data, maximising our secondary rights potential and making the long tail truly open and accessible.”

Tony Blake Chairman of Screenocean said “this innovative partnership with Shed brings high value and unique content to the Screenocean offer – creating a means of access in one place for producers sourcing Shed produced content from across a range of tv channels. Shed content will be incorporated into our clip sales platform at www.screenocean.com.

The deal opens up a vast range of premium content derived from prolific shows produced by companies across the Shed Media Group for a range of UK and international broadcasters and channels, including the BBC; Channel 4; ITV; and Discovery; National Geographic; and ABC in the US”

Programming in the deal comes from Wall to Wall, Ricochet, Twenty Twenty and Shed Productions across Drama, Factual Entertainment, Reality TV, Comedy and Entertainment and Documentary & Current Affairs.

Key programme brands include Footballers’ Wives, Supernanny, World’s Strictest Parents, The Genius of Design and Blood, Sweat & Takeaways.

Screenocean will offer domestic and worldwide distribution utilising its platform and sales and licensing infrastructure, with the company already handling clip sales for the Channel 4 Archive and the Digital Rights Group catalogue of programming.

Screenocean, has uncovered hours of vintage celebrity performances and interviews from the 1980s and 90s. Research into the UK’s Channel 4 Television Archive, exclusively represented by Screenocean, has uncovered interviews from such personalities as Audrey Hepburn, Johnny Depp, Vanessa Redgrave, Al Pacino, Ivana Trump and Diana Ross.
